Classic - Newbury - 3.10 race odds
Tambora - Newbury - 3.45 race odds
Alderman - Newbury - 4.20 race odds
I start Saturday with Classic, and this is a lovely horse who impressed us a lot when we changed tactics at Sandown last year, winning that Class 2 race. He then ran an absolute blinder at Ascot, finishing behind Two Tribes there. He comes here in good form and the track should suit. He's been unlucky at this track before, but I still think it suits him, and we're hopeful of a big run from him.
I've got Tambora next in the Maiden Stakes, and this is a nice one for Julie Wood. He picked up a bit of experience at the back end of last year, at this track, and since then he's done really well over winter. He's been away and worked really nicely... we're ready to get him started now and just see where he is in terms of what could be next for him. I really like him though, and I'd like to think he should find himself competitive.
I finish the day with Alderman, who is another nice one owned by Julie Wood. He ran a really nice race at Sandown last year, travelling brilliantly before just getting found out by the stiffness, and we put that down to weakness and immaturity at the time. He has done extremely well over the winter though, he looks a lot stronger, and his work has been really nice. I'd be hoping for a really nice run out of him.
It's difficult to say which is my best chance, but just in terms of how impressed I was by the work he did throughout the winter, I would lean towards Alderman being my best chance of the day.
I know Nicky Henderson and his team were waiting to see what sort of ground we'd get this weekend, and obviously they've chosen not to declare Constitution Hill in the end. It was always going to be a competitive race, with or without him, but of the frontrunners, I think I'd be siding with Pride Of Arras.
I thought he was very impressive when he won the Dante, he beat a very good horse in Damysus who went and won at Newmarket earlier this week. I think the track will definitely suit him most of all; it's very similar to York, there's a big long straight, it's a nice, galloping track, and I'd imagine it would suit him on this outing. He's currently second-favourite behind Convergent, but I think I'd side with him.
