Lopeo - Doncaster - 18:45 race odds
Something - Doncaster - 19:15 race odds
Chuzzlewit - Doncaster - 19:45 race odds
Mojito was disappointing last year - she showed us plenty at home but just didn't turn up on the track. She does look to have improved over the winter, but for now we're on a fact-finding mission, just to see how she's come on since last season, and this race will tell us a lot about what might be on the horizon for her in the next few months.
I've then got Tahalel in a maiden fillies' stakes, and she's a very nice filly who we thought a lot of last year. She's shown a few signs of weakness and immaturity on a racetrack in the past, but she's grown a lot and developed really well through the winter. We're hopeful of a big ride from her on Saturday, and I'd say she's probably my best chance of the day.
Lopeo is next for me, and last year he looked like stamina was going to be one of his best attributes, when winning on soft ground at Goodwood. But with that, he showed a few signs of immaturity too, so I'm hopeful he's done well over the winter and can run a big race for me here.
This is a step up in trip for Something, who has a nice weight to carry here against what looks like it's going to be stiff opposition. She has shown signs of good form though and Stuart Williams' horses are in good form in general - that should see us being competitive here.
Chuzzlewit is a fine, big horse, who is very straightforward to work with. He's been doing a lot of his running in Newcastle through the winter, so I'd suspect Doncaster will suit him. I'm hopeful of a big race here.
I've worked for Dan [Skelton] once before, a couple of weeks ago actually, where I got beat by a nose at Kempton. He's very meticulous and very good at what he does. He's improving all the time and clearly sets himself high standards and expectations. It's good to see him win the championship, obviously, and I suspect he'll just be even more of a force to be reckoned with in the future.
To be touching £5m in prize money in one season is solid... that's very, very good. £4m was the target for him at the start of the year, so that return is huge. Their attention to detail is very good... I thought that when I rode for them at Kempton. Hopefully he turns his hand to more Flat horses in the future, and keeps my name firmly in his book! Huge congratulations to him and his team though - it's thoroughly deserved.
