1.10 - Jaijai
I start on Saturday with Jaijai at Ascot in the opener, and he’s a really nice horse who we like a lot. He’s obviously first time out at Ascot, though, and he’s got a bit of a wide draw. We’re looking for him to answer a few questions for us here, but like I say, we do hold him in high regard and we’re hoping for a big run.
1.45 - Deedaydiva
Deedaydiva runs in a fillies’ handicap is a horse of Alan King’s. She’s got a nice mark after placing three times. The trip is perfect, and she comes into this race on a nice low weight, which is good for Ascot. Alan King is very good with his horses, and he tends to find the best races for them, so I’d imagine she’ll run well here.
2.20 - Witch Hunter
We’ve got Witch Hunter in the Carey Group Victoria Cup, and it’s always difficult to carry top weight at Ascot, especially for him, because he’s an older horse taking on some younger names in what is a very competitive handicap. There’s no doubt he’s shown ability at this track though… he’s won there twice, and he’s ran some big races in huge company throughout his career. We know he likes the track, he’s in good form at home, the only issue is that he’s a year older now, and so that’s a lot of weight to carry, which would leave him in a bit of a tough spot.
4.40 - Twilight Jet
I finish the day with Twilight Jet, a horse that used to be very good, at one stage. He came down the handicap an awful lot, and I’ve ridden him on a couple of occasions at Lingfield, which you could argue doesn’t really suit him as a track, even though he’s won there. This will be the first time I’m riding him in a straight line, and I’m hoping that brings about some improvement. And, as I said, there was a time where he was a very good horse, so if he can find a bit of that form here, then he’s going to be competitive. That is a big if, though.
