Mexico open the tournament against South Africa before South Korea face Czechia
The hosts are tipped to win with a -1 handicap as Czechia start with a victory against South Korea

The long wait is finally over as the 2026 World Cup starts on Thursday with Mexico vs South Africa, before Group A continues with South Korea vs Czechia.
Co-hosts and Group A favourites Mexico will want to make the perfect start with a victory at the Azteca, with both South Korea and Czechia given a real chance of qualification in what looks set to be a wide open and competitive group.
Below you'll find our accumulator tips for day one of the World Cup, which we will be providing on a daily basis throughout the tournament.

In a repeat of the opening game of the 2010 World Cup, Mexico and South Africa kick off the tournament - but this time it's the Mexicans who host at the Estadio Azteca.
That game in Johannesburg 16 years ago was a 1-1 draw, but this time we're expecting El Tri to kick off the tournament with a comfortable victory in what looks to be their most favourable game of the group stage, with topping Group A crucial for them keeping home advantage into the knockout stages.
With a win by at least two goals expected by our experts, we're picking a Mexico victory with a -1 handicap first up.
South Korea vs Czechia looks a much tougher game to call, with both teams given 10/3 odds of winning Group A ahead of favourites Mexico, though Czechia are slightly favoured in the qualification market.
The Czechs are on a bit of a roll heading into this tournament with six straight wins, while South Korea's form is more patchy having suffered three defeats in their last eight, including a loss to Austria - their only European opponent in that time.
As a result, we're backing a Patrik Schick-led Czechia side for what could be a narrow victory in their first World Cup game of the year.
