On Day 2 of Ladbrokes' 2026 World Cup Countdown, we're looking at the nations hunting a second World Cup trophy
England desperate to end 60 years of hurt with a first World Cup triumph since 1966
Can Spain add to their Euro 2024 success with a second World Cup in North America?

With two days to go until the start of the 2026 World Cup, Ladbrokes looks at the two nations hoping to win their second World Cup trophy this summer.
There are only two countries who have won a single World Cup in their history, and both arrive at the 2026 World Cup among the favourites to come out on top in North America - but can either England or Spain add a second star to their badge with a historic victory in July's World Cup final?

Spain
It's Thomas Tuchel's England and Luis de la Fuente's Spain who are both on the hunt for a second World Cup trophy, with the pair currently the only nations to have won a single World Cup in their history.
England's triumph (of course) came back in 1966, with a Geoff Hurst hattrick seeing them through the final, and 60 years on, the Three Lions are once again favourites to top their group and among the frontrunners to ultimately go all the way. A couple of strong tournaments under Gareth Southgate have raised expectations, and with Tuchel now tasked with guiding England to glory, the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Bukayo Saka are expected to lead their country deep into another World Cup - with a first final appearance since 1966 certainly the aim.
Spain's only-ever World Cup triumph came much more recently, lifting the trophy in 2010 thanks to an extra-time goal from Andres Iniesta, and they arrive at the 2026 World Cup as favourites to win the whole thing - narrowly ousting France and England to be priced as frontrunners. The likes of Golden Ball favourite Lamine Yamal and Golden Glove contender Unai Simon are a big part of why they're so fancied this summer, and with the Spaniards likely building plenty of momentum in a comfortable Group H, the rest of the world have it all to do to stop them again here.
Ladbrokes is celebrating the World Cup countdown with a new price boost every day between now and the start of the tournament, with today's offer looking at Scotland's match vs Haiti in Group C.
Steve Clarke's Scots have been drawn into a tricky group consisting of Brazil and Morocco, but with minnows Haiti also in the mix, Scotland will be expecting to pick up enough points to progress to the knockouts - and the odds of the Tartan Army beating Haiti 2-0 have now been boosted to 7/1.
