Man City went two seasons without a Premier League title under Guardiola for the first time ever after failing in their attempts to catch an Arsenal side who eventually won the league comfortably.

Their trademark late-season surge, which involved beating Arsenal in April, lost momentum towards the end of the campaign, with a draw against Bournemouth handing the title to the Gunners with a game to spare.

Man City have transformed into a juggernaut of English football since their takeover in 2008, winning eight Premier League titles since then, with six of those coming under legendary former boss Guardiola.

They are second only to rivals Manchester United in terms of titles in the Premier League era, while their 10 league titles overall place them fourth behind Liverpool, United and Arsenal.

Squad and key players

Man City have made just one signing for the first team this summer but it was a big one - with midfielder Elliot Anderson signing from Nottingham Forest for a huge £116million.

It remains to be seen whether Anderson will play alongside Rodri, who has been strongly linked with Barcelona, or replace him. Bernardo Silva and John Stones were high-profile exits this summer but City's squad is still packed with quality all over the pitch.

Erling Haaland is unsurprisingly odds-on in the Golden Boot race, with Antoine Semenyo, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki forming a dangerous set of options supplying the Norway striker. Phil Foden will be hoping to rediscover his previous levels after signing a new contract with the club.

Key Fixtures

City begin the season with three relatively favourable games against Bournemouth, Crystal palace and newly-promoted Coventry, before they take on rivals Manchester United in the first Manchester derby of the season in September.

Difficult away trips to Liverpool and Aston Villa follow in October, while they visit Arsenal at the end of November before facing Chelsea, Hull, Newcastle and Everton over December and the Christmas period.

They begin 2027 at home to Tottenham, while they also welcome Arsenal later that month. The Manchester derby at the Etihad takes place on March 20.

The Citizens have a difficult final six-game run-in, which includes a return to Stamford Bridge for Maresca, as well as facing Liverpool, Villa and Sunderland on the final day.

Manchester City Premier League prediction

There is an element of the unknown about Man City ahead of this season after a decade of Guardiola at the helm, while the future of Rodri could have a significant bearing on how their season pans out.

Arsenal look the slightly more settled outfit at this time, and that's why we think they'll pip the Citizens to the title once again.
