I start Friday with Al Durry at Newbury, she's trained by Owen Burrows and won nicely in a Class 4 at Wolverhampton last time out - she looked as though she had a little in hand when winning on that occasion, so the obvious next step was to take on a Class 3. It's a competitive race, but it's the perfect step up for her. The track will suit her, she's a galloping sort who'll like a track like Newbury, so hopefully she'll go well.
Down To You Kid is a nice two-year-old, and our horses are coming to form nicely now. I'd have to put him in the mix in this one... he's worked nicely at home and he's ready to start. We think a bit of him - obviously we're going to find out what kind of competition he ends up running against, but like I said, he's ready to start now, and we like him a lot.
Guitar Solo is my third ride of the day, and this one has taken a long time to learn his trade. He ran very green first time out, and didn't really show us much. I would imagine that he'll need another run to straighten him out, so for now it's up in the air as to how well he runs on the day, I think.
This is Zynak's first time out for Kevin Philippart De Foy, so he's another one we're going to learn a lot about after this ride. From there, we'll know where he's at and what the rest of his season might look like. I do like these maiden stakes though, with a decent-sized field, so I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of horse we've got in him.
We're in a similar position with Knight Of Storms, immediately after Zynak. Another maiden stakes, and this one is trained by David Simcock. These kind of races are there for us to see what's next for these horses, and where we might want to take him. It's his first time out so I'm sure he's ready to start, and there's not a lot of form to go off across the rest of the field, so I'm hopeful ours will be right up there this evening.
Glenna is one I've ridden a couple of times before, at Kempton. She's a horse for Tom Ward who ran a nice race at Nottingham last time out, in a mediocre race. This is another mediocre one in which the ground, the track and trip should all suit. I'd be hoping she's able to run a bit better than what she did at Nottingham - if she does that, she'll be competitive.
Patrol is a horse I won on last year at Southwell, he also ran really well last time out, finishing second at Newcastle and showing that he's coming back to form. He loves a galloping track, so he should really run well around Newbury. Also, his trainer, Dylan Cunha, is in great form so I'm looking forward to it.
