Ladbrokes shares its World Cup semi-final combined XI
Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane lead the line, with Lionel Messi pulling the strings behind
Jude Bellingham makes the cut, alongside the likes of Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise

Ahead of the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, Ladbrokes puts together the ultimate combined XI from all four nations, with huge names fighting for every position.
France face Spain in the first semi-final of the tournament before England take on Argentina a day later, and with the world's top-four nations all still in the hunt for football's greatest prize, there's no shortage of players to choose from when putting together a team.
With elite representation from a number of leagues, this side would dominate the international scene - so read on to see who makes the cut in our World Cup semi-final combined XI.
With so many world-class forwards to choose from, we've gone extremely attack-minded with our semi-final combined XI, opting for a 3-4-1-2 formation to get the danger men on the pitch.
GK: Emiliano Martinez (Argentina)
CB: Pau Cubarsi (Spain)
CB: William Saliba (France)
CB: Marc Guehi (England)
RM: Lamine Yamal (Spain)
CM: Rodri (Spain)
CM: Jude Bellingham (England)
LM: Michael Olise (France)
CAM: Lionel Messi (Argentina)
ST: Harry Kane (England)
ST: Kylian Mbappe (France)
Emiliano Martinez (Argentina)
Choosing who to put between the sticks in our semi-finals combined XI was one of the toughest picks of the lot, with all four nations boasting genuinely top goalkeepers - but Argentina's Emi Martinez just about stands out for us. Having previously won the World Cup, the Golden Glove, the Yashin Trophy, and much more, the Aston Villa shot-stopper has set the standards for a number of years now, and despite tough competition from this year's Golden Glove favourite Unai Simon, France keeper Mike Maignan, and England record-breaker Jordan Pickford, Martinez's impact in the biggest moments sees him get the #1 spot in this team.
Pau Cubarsi (Spain)
William Saliba (France)
Marc Guehi (England)
We've gone for a back three to allow room for more match-winners at the top end of the pitch, but what a back three it is, with a trio of the world's most impressive central defenders lining up in our combined XI. Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi has the world at his feet at just 19 years old, with the teenager playing every minute of Spain's World Cup campaign up to this point, and as such a key component of a defence that has conceded one goal all summer, we're watching the emergence of another great Spanish centre-back.
Alongside him is France and Arsenal defender William Saliba, who we've already tipped to enjoy a historic 2026/27 campaign with the Gunners. The 25-year-old is already approaching 200 games for Mikel Arteta's Premier League champions, and has become a crucial part of Didier Deschamps' backline at the 2026 World Cup, with huge contributions to three consecutive clean sheets helping his country reach the semi-final.
The third defender is Manchester City and England man Marc Guehi, who hasn't missed a minute of football since coming on as a late sub in the Three Lions' Group L opener. He faced stiff competition for this spot from the likes of Dayot Upamecano, Ezri Konsa, and Aymeric Laporte, but as such a consistent, composed performer, he slots in on the left-hand side of our back three perfectly - rounding off an impenetrable backline.
Lamine Yamal (Spain)
Rodri (Spain)
Jude Bellingham (England)
Michael Olise (France)
Moving into midfield and we start to see some of the world's biggest names come to the fore, starting with Lamine Yamal out on the right-hand side. Another Spanish teenager to be named in our semi-final combined XI, Yamal is already one of the most exciting players on the planet, with his frightening dribbling ability, electric speed, and lethal left foot combining to produce a once-in-a-generation talent - that is keeping current Ballon d'Or holder Ousmane Dembele out of this team.
At the heart of the team we're pairing another Ballon d'Or winner, Rodri, with England's Jude Bellingham, in a partnership that brings just about everything you could possibly need in midfield. With immense physicality, world-class technical ability, endless energy, and a goal-threat that has Bellingham competing fiercely in the Golden Boot race, this duo would dominate the middle of the park against any opponent, with defensive solidity and attacking quality in abundance. Declan Rice and Pedri can consider themselves unlucky to miss out, but we've gone with arguably the two greatest individual midfielders in world football.
At left-mid, we bring in the World Cup's leading assister in Michael Olise, who has carried his eye-catching form for Bayern Munich into the summer. The 24-year-old has developed into one of the silkiest wide-men in football over the last year or so, showing his class on every stage, and his five assists this summer showcase exactly why he earns his spot in our combined XI, keeping players like Bukayo Saka and Desire Doue out of the picture.
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Harry Kane (England)
Kylian Mbappe (France)
Finally, we've selected the world's most complete frontline, with 55 World Cup goals between them - 22 of which have come this summer. Lionel Messi holds the space behind the front two in our semi-finals combined XI, with the Argentina icon demanding a place in this team one way or another. His creativity gives his goalscoring record a run for its money, which says it all, and having lifted the 2022 World Cup as captain, he's made a mockery of any 'GOAT debate'. If there's a combined XI without Lionel Messi in it, then it simply can't be trusted.
In front of him we're combining unstoppable pace with ruthless finishing, as Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane lead the line. England skipper Kane - who we're tipped to be knighted in 2026 - has become just the second man ever to score 70 goals in a single season this term (after Messi), and has already bailed his country out in tough moments this summer. Closing in on 100 international goals, there aren't any better strikers than the Bayern Munich man, who has every finish in the book, and as he seems to get better with age, he's got every chance of firing England to a first World Cup triumph since 1966.
Mbappe completes this semi-final combined XI in some style, with the 27-year-old already on 20 World Cup goals in his career - and as he captains the World Cup favourites, another trophy is well within reach. Remarkably, Mbappe has never lost a World Cup match inside 90 minutes, with a third straight final in sight, and as one of only two men to score a World Cup final hat-trick, the biggest moments are always owned by the Frenchman.
So that concludes our combined XI from all four semi-finalists at the 2026 World Cup.
